We are completing the remodel of a Craftsman Cottage in Leinkauf Historic District. 1553 Eslava is a popular single gabled front porch design. One block east of the popular McDonald Avenue neighborhood, the home is located three blocks south of Government St and more importantly (to some, me included) 5 min walk to Starbucks!
The one story home is roughly 1300 square feet, 2 bedrooms and one full bath. The kitchen is larger than you would expect for a home of this age and size. Original glass front hutch cabinetry is a feature not found in today's starter homes.
The remodel has taken place over the last three years. The results are fantastic. We kept vintage details where ever possible. Solid wood interior doors, skeleton key locks, crystal and brass door knobs. 9 over 1 prairie style leaded glass windows. Built-in corner china cabinet in the dining area is another historic feature that stands out in this home.
A previous owner framed in a back porch area to create a spacious inside laundry. They did fine work.
Its not too often that you can walk through a pre-1950's pier and beam home and not notice any sags in the floor. This home's foundation is solid.
Central Air and Heat has been installed. The home stays nice and cool during the hot summer months. But with a front porch the width of the house, I'm sure the new owners will be spending plenty of time relaxing out doors!
